Puff puff is a delicious, popular African Snack, side dish, and street food. It is crunchy on the surface and soft inside. I remember back home, we used to take this street food as our breakfast with corn porridge or beans stew. Children, as well as adults, love this snack, it is very addictive.
This snack is quick and easy to make with just a few ingredients. When the ingredients are mixed, you get a dough as a result. The dough can be placed to rest for at least one hour. The longer it rests, the longer it rises. After that, the dough can be fried by taking a good quantity of dough in the palm of your hand. Then using your thumb and forefinger, the dough is cut and dropped in very hot oil.
Puff Puff
Ingredients
- 42 g fresh yeast or 14g dry yeast
- 300 g sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 + 1/2 l lukewarm water
- 1 + 1/2 kg self-raising flour
Instructions
- Pour yeast, salt, sugar, and water into a bowl. Mix until obtaining a homogeneous mixture.
- Add flour into the mixture and mix with washed hands until you get a lump-free dough. Cover it and let it rest in a warm environment for at least one hour.
- After the resting time, heat the oil in the pot to about 180°C. Check the oil temperature by scooping a little dough and putting it into the oil, if the dough quickly returns to the surface of the oil, then you can start frying, if not wait until the oil is hot enough.
- Fry the dough by plucking out small balls with your fingers and putting them gently into the oil (don't overcrowd the pot with the dough balls). Let them cook for a few minutes by stirring from time to time.
- When they are golden brown, carefully take them out of the oil. They are ready to be served.
